Works in Progress

Paula working on “The Student”,

The Judy Swansson Memorial on the grounds of Cerro Coso College, Ridgecrest, California.

Study for proposed Theodore Roosevelt sculpture. The project was scuttled for various odd reasons. This is a serious look a fellow with large dreams, large heart, and often a large smile.

I completed one more final, maquette, showing TR with a Pelican. Now I just need to find a place who appreciates TR and would love to have my version of him.

Although he has been rightly criticized for being a big game hunter, it is also because of him that many species such as the Brown Pelicans and the Buffalo, were saved from extinction.

This shows the armature for the large cat, playground animal.

On top of the armature layers of expanded metal lath provide the structure to hold the final material for sculpting. This is same method I use for ferro-cement sculpture.

I’m using a product call Sculptamold, a cellulose sculpting compound that is easy to work with, air dries, can be painted later if wanted, and becomes relatively light weight when dry.

A large fish, a dragon and a horse ready to go become playground animals.

In production a Sport Rock, Paso Robles, CA

This was my first, and most likely last, chainsaw sculpture. Those chainsaws are heavy!

That’s all for now.
