"Stoic Horse"

Stoic Horse, fero-cement sculpture by Paula Zima

 "Stoic Horse"
Fero-cement, L 72" x H 56"
Purchased by the City/ County Library 1985
San Luis Obispo, CA

This is a large horse, short legs, very fun to sit on. He now lives
inside the beautiful  San Luis Obispo City/County library and people
are no longer allowed to sit on him.

One nice thing about his present location however is that he is placed at the base of a stairwell.  From the very top floor you can look down
on him and have a lovely view of his plumpness.

He is made of fero-cement,  meaning that like the fero-cement boats,
he is hollow, and is made of thin layers of concrete troweled over
thin layers of expanded metal lathe.  I worked hard to give every
square inch of him a slightly compound curve. That means shaped like an eggshell curving in all directions,  and thus very strong.
